Auguste Rodin Balzac

The above picture is a sculpture made by Auguste Rodin in 1897 named "Balzac." It is of a French writer, where the anatomy of him is distorted to portray his personality instead of his actual physical form. By 1900, Rodin was regarded as the greatest living sculpture. He emphasized on personal experiences as the source of art, which drastically differs from academic art. This piece is considered his greatest triumph, despite all of the criticism it received when it was first unveiled.
