Daisy Chain

This sculpture is called "Daisy Chain," by Kiki Smith. It is composed of steel chains and five cast bronze elements of body parts. The sculpture was completed in 1992 and was an estimate of $60,000 to $80,000, but was sold for $90,000. Smith was a known feminist and during the time this sculpture was made there was violence against women. The sculpture illustrates women's fight for freedom throughout a time of sexism and violence. The use of chains represents the struggle for freedom from oneself.
